RealWave 2 is a physically-based
system which is able to track the propagation of gravitational waves on a mesh,
simulating the surface of the sea. Also RealWave calculates the bouyancy forces
on the objects and their natural motion.
RealWave runs as
a Windows standalone program with an intuitive real-time OpenGLŪ display,
and links to popular 3D animation packages such as LightWave, 3D Studio MAX,
Softimage, Maya and Cinema 4D via free plugins. Support for other high-end animation
packages is in the works as well.
The objects will be affected
by the waves generated on the surface. Also they will generate their own wake
while moving around.
With RealWave you can simulate
the more commons properties which take place in the surface of any liquid medium,
such as waves, bouyancy forces, floating features, difraction, deformation,
dynamic forces, propagation, ...etc.
Features:
INTUITIVE USER-FRIENDLY
GRAPHICAL INTERFACE WITH FULL OPEN-GL SUPPORT
RealWave's programmers
have developed a intuitive Windows interface combining the most representative
tools of other powerful 3D packages, as Lightwave, 3D Studio MAX or Maya.
The user-friendly panels and the easy way to change the point of view and
run the simulation will make you enjoy while using the program. RealWave
let the user to arrange the scene in a fast way, just set up the objects,
the surface and... ACTION.
REALISTIC MOTION OF OBJECTS
FLOATING ON THE SURFACE
RealWave will calculate
the buoyancy forces of the objects using true dynamic equations. Every object
handles its own mass and inertia properties which are automatically calculated.
User can set different properties for the object, including mass, inertia
scale or position of the center of gravity, although RealWave will calculate
them automatically if required. Just try to import any object and let it
float free on the water!
Objects will be affected
by the waves generated on the surface. Also they will generate their own
wake while moving around. Try to load an animated ship following some path
of your choice into RealWave and look how the surface is disturbed and the
wake propagates while running along.
WAVE DIFRACTION
Coast line effect (or shallow water effect). This feature lets simulate wave
diffraction effects (waves adapting to the coast shape as the depth decreases).
COMBINE OBJECT DEFORMATION
AND DYNAMIC FORCES. IMPORT ANIMATED SCENES
Yes! geometric deformation will affect the behaviour of the object in real
time.
You will be able to
import animated objects into RealWave by using SD scene files. Even if the
objects are deforming (scaling, bending, twisting) the system will handle
them without problems. An animated giant walking on the water surface will
produce typical disturbance effects.
By using the 'Release
at frame' control, you will let the giant free falling on the water surface,
floating and kicking angrily at the same time. Another example could include
an object that is inflating, therefore floating up, and then deflating so
it will go down.
REALISTIC WAVE GENERATION
AND PROPAGATION
By using easy functions
you will be able to generate different kind of gravitational waves. RealWave
supports three different ways to generate waves: inserting control points
in the mesh, specifying a fractal displacement pattern or specifying a spectrum
profile. Control points will let you establish local wave generators at
different zones. You can add as many waves as you want using different set
of control points with their own parameters. Fractl & Spectrum properties
are more suitable to obtain a general and steady motion of the surface simulating
the combination of many waves, as in a real sea.
REALWAVE CAN IMPORT
ANY MESH AND USE IT FOR WAVE PROPAGATION
Think of any arbitrary mesh (a planet, a lake, a toy...) where your object
will float on, propagating their own waves. This is easily achieved with
the custom mesh loading function. Also try to import any 3D polygonal mesh
as water surface and set some control points on it. You will see how the
waves are propagated naturally over the 3D surface.
MULTI-RESOLUTION MESH
The surface mesh can
be subdivided in patchs of different resolution. The transition between
the working level and the rest of levels is smooth. Its size can be bigger
enough to reach the horizon, while keeping a reduced simulation area.
DAMPING AREA
The energy of the waves
can be absorbed in the damping area (red points) that surrounds the working
area. The waves will not bounce back when they reach the edges.
ADAPTIVE PATH
RealWave will automatically create a path for the animated objects in a
multi resolution environment. This path can be manually edited.
FOAM TEXTURE MASK
Perturbation in the
surface mesh can also generate foam effects. RealWave will display foam
effects as a white texture in the graphic window. This texture can be exported
to disk as a sequence of images for every frame. They can be used as a texture
mask in the 3D platform, for any realistic foam effect.
PARTICLE EMITTERS
Particles can be launched
from objects, standard emitters or the water surface. The particles will
perturb the surface, generating waves and foam texture. They can also affect
the objects, and you have total control over any parameter.
SUPPORT FOR 3DS MAX,
LIGHTWAVE, MAYA, CINEMA 4D and SOFTIMAGE | 3D
The full RealWave
package includes different plug-ins for Lightwave 3D, 3D Studio MAX, Softimage|3D,
CINEMA 4D and Maya platforms. These plug-ins let the user to interchange
data with RealWave.
