Ozone 4.0 - Atmospheres that come alive

The Ozone 4.0 plug-in lets you create and render hyper-realistic skies and atmospheres in 3ds Max, Maya, XSI, Lightwave and Cinema4D.
Ozone 4.0 implements the cutting-edge technologies developped by e-on software for the simulation and rendering of atmospheric effects. Its atmospheres provide an accurately simulated environment that affects all elements of your scenes and behaves according to nature’s rules.
Ozone 4.0 is built on the same algorithms and integration technology as Vue 7 xStream, but is limited to atmospheres and skies.

With four atmospheric models – spectral, volumetric, standard and environment mapping, over 100 preset atmospheres and 100 preset cloud shapes, Ozone 4.0 is the most complete, realistic and productive solution for creating skies and atmospheres that come alive.
Your atmospheres can be as realistic as what you see out your window or they can be as imaginative as the green and purple sunsets of uncharted planets.
Supported Renderers
Compatibility
A single license of Ozone 4.0 can now be used with all compatible applications and renderers installed on your system, without requiring the purchase of any Extra Renderer licenses (unlike what was the case with Ozone 3.0).
- Ozone 4.0 for Maya works with both MentalRay and Maya software renderers.
- Ozone 4.0 for 3ds Max and XSI works with MentalRay.
- Ozone 4.0 for LightWave and Cinema4D works with the native renderer.
Integration with MentalRay
Ozone 4.0 is compatible with MentalRay for 3ds Max, Maya and XSI.
This compatibility extends to specific technologies, such as mr Sun&Sky, Photometric Lights or Distributed Bucket Rendering.
Ozone 4.0 will automatically adjust it's settings to match the effects of these features, whenever they are used.
Rendering flexibility
Ozone 4.0 lets you easily disable the rendering of the Vue sky and/or atmospheric effects (e.g. when using mr Sun&Sky). You can even disable the rendering of Ozone content altogether, for instance if you want to perform tests on the host-application-part of the scene. If the entire Ozone content is disabled from render, the Ozone 4.0 plug-in won't be loaded in the first place.
Ozone atmospheric effects can be rendered alongside other volumetric plug-ins running in the host application (contingent upon the implementation of the plug-in). For instance, rendering alongside LightWave HyperVoxels or Maya Fluids is possible.

With its easy to use interface and wide range of features, Ozone 4.0 is the essential tool for animators and still creators seeking professional atmospheric results.
Bright sunshine, glorious sunsets, bad weather, moonlit nights – Ozone 4.0 handles them all. With over 100 predefined atmospheres and an intuitive interface, you can achieve exactly what you had in mind in minutes!
Customize every aspect of the atmosphere. Raise and lower the sun or change the direction or color of the sunlight. Add storm clouds to create an ominous mood. Create a thick, moisture-laden atmosphere where objects get lost in the mist. Add layer upon layer of clouds, adjusting their complexity, density, altitude and shape. Add a rainbow for a special effect, or stars and ice rings. You are in total control.
Advanced Technology

The atmospheres you build with Ozone 4.0 are part of a world – a world that extends far beyond your scene. A world with ambience, with haze and fog. A world with real clouds that have substance and cast shadows, that influence and interact with the other aspects of your scene. This is not just a backdrop picture of a sky. Best of all, you can modify every aspect of it!
Different projects require different approaches to the simulation and rendering of atmospheres. This is why Ozone 4.0 offers no less than four different atmospheric models, ranging from simple background skies to photo-based environments and physically accurate atmospheres. Within this wide choice you will find the solution that best fits your project’s needs.
Breakthrough Algorithms!
Advanced algorithms produce multitudes of atmospheric effects, from the natural world to the frontiers of your imagination. You are not limited to realistic skies: Ozone 4.0 works for all kinds of situations, including the wildest ones!
Ozone 4.0 features all of e-on software's refinements to take your scenery one step ahead.

Super-Fast Rendering Technology
Despite the staggering complexity of the atmospheric models, Ozone 4.0 renders at blazing speed, thanks to e-on software’s highly optimized technology.
Spectral Atmosphere Model
Ozone 4.0’s new hyper-realistic model accurately simulates the behavior of real-world atmosphere and lighting according to weather conditions. The appearance of sky, sun and clouds (both standard and spectral), as well as the character of direct and ambient light are all affected by the delicate balance between the elements that constitute the atmosphere: air, dust and water particles.
The Spectral model provides its own set of controls that let you adjust each element’s density and height, as well as additional parameters like aerial perspective, sun corona, scattering anisotropy and rendering quality. Using the Spectral model ensures a complete coherence of all the elements of a scene.
Spectral cloud layers
The spectral atmosphere engine is capable of rendering highly realistic volumetric clouds with accurate lighting and volumetric shadows.
Spectral cloud layers are three-dimensional, allowing you to create anything from thin ground fog to massive Cumulonimbus.
You can place as many layers as you need, at any height, and even combine spectral and standard layers (to add high altitude Cirrus, for instance).
Spectral layers are created using any type of noise function, and provide a wide range of control over density, cover, illumination and even vertical profile.
They look equally good from below or from above, and thus are perfectly suited for fly-through sequences, as well as ground fog or “mountains peaking through clouds” effects.
With the right settings, you can even produce natural phenomena like God-rays.
Illumination of clouds
Ozone 4.0 introduces a new set of break-through algorithms that are capable of rendering extremely detailed volume clouds at an incredible pace.
These new algorithms are capable of better simulating the intricate complexity of cloud geometry, as well as the indirect illumination that takes place inside the clouds.

Interface and Features
The Ozone 4.0 interface is straight-forward and productive. It consists of 4 or 5 tabs, depending on the atmosphere model:
- Sun to adjust the position and size of the sun.
- Light to select and modify the lighting model you wish to use – standard or global ambience.
- Clouds to create layers of clouds and adjust their settings.
- Fog and Haze to adjust the density, distribution and color of the fog and haze.
- Sky, Fog and Haze (for Spectral Atmospheres) to set up parameters for fog and haze and to add such effects as volumetric sunlight and godrays.
- Effects to add special effects such as rainbows, stars, ice rings, etc...
Ozone 4.0 is totally compatible with the Vue 7* atmospheric system (e-on software’s award winning 3D scenery generator).
Any atmosphere created in Vue 7* can be used in Ozone 4.0 for even more flexibility.
