"Fundamentals of Maya: UV Layout" concentrates on the essential
techniques needed to define and apply flawless textures to Polygon and Sub-D
models, resulting in phenomenal detail and accuracy. Each of the concepts,
methods, and tools used for every process are presented in clear and easy to
follow steps, specifically designed to save you time and frustration throughout
your workflow. Easily learn Planar, Cylindrical, Spherical and Automatic Mapping
methods, Cutting UVs. Sewing UVs, UV Transfer, Averaging Vertices, working in
the UV Texture Editor, and achieving clean and efficient UV layouts with
precision.
Introduction
This lesson will introduce you to the project and go over what topics
will be covered over the span of this training kit.
Intro
to Maya's UV Texture Editor
We will discuss exactly what UVs are, as well as how to manipulate them
in the UV Texture Editor.
Getting Familiar With the Planar Mapping
In this lesson we will show you how to use the Planar Map as a method of
creating a UV layout.
Exploring Cylindrical Mapping
In this lesson we will demonstrate some of the advantages and
disadvantages of Cylindrical Mapping.
Exploring Spherical and Automatic Mapping
Two additional methods of creating UV layouts are the Spherical and
Automatic Mapping Tools. In this video we will discuss how to use each
of these methods.
Getting Started With Multiple Projections
Now that we are familiar with the process of creating UV layouts, we
will explore the process of cutting and sewing UVs.
Looking Deeper Into the Process of Sewing UVs Together
In this video we will look further into the process of cutting and
sewing UVs, as well as how to fix common problems you will run into when
creating you own UV layouts.
Getting Started on the Arm UV Layout of the Monster
Now that we have covered the basic principles of UV layout, we are ready
to get started applying some of those principles to a more complex
model.
Completing the Adjustments to Arm Geometry
We must finish making adjustments to the polygon monster's arm in order
to achieve a better UV layout.
Adjusting the UVs on the Arm
Now that we have created the UV layout for the arm of the monster, we
need to go into the UV texture editor to make the necessary adjustments
for the UVs.
Preparing to Create the UV Map for the Back Legs
Before we create the UV Map for the back legs, we need to make some
adjustments to the geometry of the back leg.
Mapping the Back Leg
We are now ready to make the UV layout for the back leg.
Preparing the Hands and Feet for UV Mapping
Before we create the UV layouts for the hands and feet, we need to
reposition them in order to make the UV mapping easier.
Adjusting the UV Layout of the Hand
Now that we have created the UV layout of the hands and feet, we need to
use the UV Texture Editor to remove any overlapping UVs.
Final
Adjustments to Hand UVs
In this video we will complete the process of removing any overlapping
UVs on the monster's hand.
Creating UV Layout for the Torso
At this point in the training, we are ready to create the UV layout for
the torso of the monster.
Creating UV Layout for the Head (part 1)
In this lesson we will begin the process of creating the UV layout for
the monster's head.
Creating UV Layout for the Head (part 2)
In this lesson we will continue with the process of mapping the various
angles of the monster's head.
Sewing
UVs on the Monster's Head (part 1)
We are now ready to begin sewing the UVs of the monster's face together
into one seamless map.
Sewing
UVs on the Monster's Head (part 2)
Continuing from the previous lesson, we will keep working on sewing the
UVs of the monster's head.
Sewing
UVs on the Monster's Head (part 3)
Continuing from the previous video, we will do a little bit more work on
the UVs of the monster's head.
Sewing
UVs on the Monster's Head (part 4)
In this lesson we will make the final adjustments to the UV layout of
the monster's head.
Moving
the UV Data
Now that we have completed the UV layout of the polygon model, we are
ready to move that UV data back to our original Sub-D monster.
Creating UV Layout for the Horns
In this final lesson we will create the UV layout for the horns and take
a look at the follow-up project to this training kit.
